The overall administrative control in running the scheme in the State as a whole including the Six Sub Regions (Peenya, Bommasandra, Mysore, Mangalore, Hubli and Gulbarga ) rest with the Regional Director, ESIC, Bangalore.
With a view to ensure effective administration by way of easy accessibility and early settlement of claims and grievances of employers and employees with reference to the activities connected with Insurance and benefits matters, the Joint Directors of the respective Sub Region exercise the powers delegated in this regard.
The Scheme was implemented in the State of Karnataka in July 1958 in Bangalore. Now, the Scheme has been extended to the entire Karnataka State covering more than 33.28 lakh employees working in about 87,575 factories / establishments, thereby catering to the needs of more than 1.33 crore beneficiaries.For administration of the Scheme, E.S.I. Corporation is having one Regional Office, Six Sub-Regional Offices, 43 Branch Offices. Senior State Medical Commissioner's Office has also been established in Bengaluru and Medical Referee Offices in Bengaluru and Hubli. For delivery of Medical Benefit in the state of Karnataka, three Hospitals are being run by ESI Corporation. ESI Scheme (Medical Services), Government of Karnataka is running 7 Hospitals and 111 Dispensaries. Apart from this, ESI is having tie up with reputed private hospitals / diagnostic centres for providing Super Specialty Treatment to the beneficiaries. ESIC in Karnataka is also running two Medical Colleges, one in Bengaluru and the other one in Gulbarga, having intake capacity of 100 seats in Under Graduate (MBBS) course, 45% of the seats in these college are reserved for wards of ESI registered employees (insured person). ESI Medical College, Rajajinagar is also a Post Graduate Education Centre. ESIC has two Nursing College, one at Indiranagar, Bangalore and the other at Gulbarga. Dental College is also being run by ESIC at Gulbarga.
